It was a tough weekend for the Carson-Newman Men's and Women's Tennis teams. The men were shutout 0-9 and the women lost 1-8 in their season openers against Cumberland University. The matches were played in Nashville at an indoor facility. Head Coach Jean Love is confident that her teams will improve throughout the season. Love commented on her six Lady Eagles, saying she is "looking for the women to be competitive in the conference," and "get better as the season goes along." With only one senior and five underclassmen, she says the women's team needs to stay healthy and injury-free in order to compete this season.

The Eagle men's team lost the depth of three seniors that contributed to their NCAA tournament appearance last season. Love said that it will be "hard to replace that experience. We will have to play very clean and very well in each and every match." She believes that more wins will be in store for the team as the new and young players get accustomed to the collegiate level of competition.

Both squads will be in action today, Feb. 9,. at 2:30 as they hostt University of the Cumberlands.
