This weekend proved to be a little to much for the Carson Newman Eagles Softball team, with one victory against Wingate and two losses from Lenoir-Rhyne and also Wingate. To kick off the tournament, Carson Newman edged Wingate 2-1 Friday morning. Amber Palmer hit a homerun in the bottom of the second inning to score the first run of the day for Carson Newman. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Whitney Durham scored the second run, from which Wingate would not recover. Freshman pitcher Stephanie Templeton led her team to victory.

Saturday morning, the Eagles were shut-out 7-0 by top-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne. Carson Newman only registered six hits against L-R, and no extra base hits. Stephanie Templeton took the loss for the Eagles.

The Lady Eagles squared off a second time against Wingate in the losers bracket final and were eliminated by the Lady Bulldogs 3-1. Hillary Hammond led the Eagles, and scored their only run, hitting a perfect 3-3 at bat. Stephanie Templeton took the loss for the Eagles.

Carson-Newman hopes to continue their season with an at-large bid to the Division II National Championship tournament. Selections will be announced Monday, May 7.
