In a high scoring shootout last Saturday night against Lincoln Memorial, the Carson-Newman Eagles fell short in overtime 120-118.The Eagles were down 18 points at the half. and continued to trail most of the second half, but slowly and steadily continued to close the gap.
With just over 8 minutes left in the game, the Eagles made a 7-0 run, which ended with a pair of free throws made by Scott Williams, which left the score at 84-78. With just six minutes to go, the Eagles shortened Lincoln Memorials lead to just four points at 92-88, thanks to a pair of free throws made by Clay Scott, and a pair of 3-pointers put up by Jesse McMurray and Jordan Dixon. At the 5 minutes mark, the Eagles were down again by 8 at 100-92, but went on to have a 6 point streak with Andy Tipton making a free throw and Scott Williams sinking another 3-pointer and a lay up. The Eagles finally tied up the score at 107-107 thanks to four free throws made by Kente Hart. Time expired just as Lincoln Memorial missed a lay up, pushing the teams into overtime.
The Eagles and Lincoln Memorial answered each other shot by shot in early overtime with 8 lead changes in the first five minutes alone. With the game tied at 118-118 and only 7 seconds left in the game, Lincoln Memorials Beau Brown dropped the game winning lay up.
Scott Williams led the Eagles in points with a career high of 32 points, 24 of which were made in the second half. Hart also had 18 points, with Tipton trailing behind with 17 points. Clay Scott added 15 points to the Eagles score bored as well.
