(re)ACTION kicked off on September 20 in the cafeteria.  (re)ACTION, the student philanthropy project, is sponsored by the Student Ambassador Association (SAA).

Sponsored by the Student Ambassador Association (SAA), (re)ACTION is the student philanthropy project.

In addition to earning a CLW credit for attending the kick-off, students involved in organizations and clubs on campus were called to select a local charitable cause and raise money for that charity.

While donating one's time is an integral part of volunteering, most non-profit organizations need monetary donations in order to continue each year.

Cloi Craig, president of SAA, is excited about (re)ACTION.  "I think this year more people understand what (re)ACTION is about, and I am looking forwarded to showing the community that we care!" said Craig.

Philanthropy, a word that SAA has tried to define through (re)ACTION this year, is an altruistic concern for human welfare and advancement, usually manifested by donations of money, property, or work.

The starting date of this project is Oct. 3, and the deadline for collecting money is April 3, 2012.  This year, the winning team will be selected by a panel of unbiased judges consisting of four to five faculty and staff members, as well as possibly some members of the community.  The winner will be picked not only by how much money was raised, but also on the creativity of fundraising activities and other factors.

Prizes include $500 to the winning team's charity and a plaque that will be presented at the Student Affairs Banquet. In addition to first place, honorable mentions will be awarded to other clubs that exhibit exemplary activities pertaining to (re)ACTION.

If students or clubs have any questions, they can contact Amy Reed or Cloi Craig.
