Honors Convocation 2010

The campus community gathered at First Baptist Church on April 13 to recognize scholastic and service achievements for the 2009-2010 academic year.Destry Cloud won the Agnes Hull award for his distinction in English and profound love for literature.

William Hodgson received the Albert L. Myers scholarship, which honors an academically qualified junior or senior chemistry major who represents the namesake's scientific and Christian ideals.

Emily Bibb, Rose Broyles, Philip Glandon, Lauren Henry, Kevin Quinby and Ah-Reum were the recipients of the Alpha Chi Sophomore Scholastic award for highest G.P.A.

Lata Kodali won the A.R. Sloan Scholarship award, which is given to a rising senior math major with a 3.5 or higher G.P.A. and a demonstrated potential to contribute to mathematics.

Amie Douthat received the Braden Family and Consumer Sciences cross pen for her scholastic achievement, participation in activities and presented image.

Natalie Lester won the Communication Department Media plaque, which is given to the student who contributed the most to the advancement of campus media.

Brianna Melton received the Dems scholarship, which honors the most outstanding major or minor in French, German or Spanish based on his or her merit, academic achievement and faculty nominations.

John Mitchell Barton won the J.C. Brashear Pre-Law award, which is presented to a senior who has shown personal and academic development and aspires to participate in the law field.

Kathryn Walker received the Kellye Tollett Memorial Scholarship award, which is donated to a tennis player and honors student who demonstrates concern for others and commitment to excellence.

Lauren Baumgardner won the Nursing Achievement award, which honors a student who has shown consistently high quality performance in clinicals, has a 3.0 G.P.A.

Jody Barker, Kristen Buckles, Lauren Edwards, Kristina Enter, Brittany Gentile, Lata Kodali, Logan McDaniel, Jenna Medley, Travis Pace, Terry Rogers, Maggie Smith, Kelsey Wiggins and Hannah Williams received the Panathenees Junior Scholastic award for highest cumulative G.P.A. after at least one semester at C-N.

Schuyler Matteson won the Paul Brewer Academic Achievement plaque and stipend, which goes to a junior or senior philosophy or religion major with outstanding academic achievement.

James Haigh received the Paul Haigh Book award for an outstanding physics student who demonstrates curiosity about the world and appreciation of books.

Adriel Schmitt won the President's R.O.T.C. Award for General Military Excellence, which honors a graduating cadet who demonstrates the highest level of student leadership, a high academic standard and R.O.T.C. achievement.

Caitlin Faith Gagnon received the Psi Chi Service award, which recognizes an outstanding senior member who advances the psychology field and contributes to the local chapter's activities.

Whitney Tipton won the Robert Louis Wilkerson Jr. award for her active extracurricular participation in debate, forensics drama or music, minimum 3.5 G.P.A. and for holding an on-campus job.

Kristie McCarter received the Undergraduate Nursing Student Award of Sigma Theta Tau, International, Rho Mu Chapter, which is presented to an undergraduate nursing student who demonstrates outstanding leadership potential, scholarly effort and clinical skill, combined with a demonstrated commitment to excellent nursing practice.

Amber Hamblin won the C-N Students for Environmental Action Stewardship award for exemplifying the club's mission ideals of restoring local ecosystems educating the campus about important public policy issues affecting the environment and enjoying nature with outdoor activities.

Julia Kindy received the Theodor Presser Scholarship award for $4,800, which is presented based on merit to an outstanding rising senior music major.

Richard Alex Smith won the Visual Arts award, which recognizes a student who has distinguished himself or herself through service and accomplishment that has brought honor and recognition to the individual, the program and the College.

Elizabeth Sneed received the Wall Street Journal plaque and one-year subscription, which honors a graduating business major for outstanding performance and achievement in business classes.

Bethany Boyenton, Bethany Brown, Molly Brummett, Joshua Carpenter, Jack Harvie and Lindy Lee Mason were the recipients for the Alpha Lambda Delta Book Award for Seniors who graduate with the highest G.P.A.

David Morton won the Alpha Lambda Delta Book Award for Freshmen, which is presented to the student with the highest G.P.A. for the most number of credit hours among the spring initiates.

Destry Cloud received the Best Actor statuette and Danielle Schlafer the Best Actress statuette for an outstanding performance in a college dramatic production, as determined by communication students' vote.

Lindy Lee Mason won the Beta Beta Beta Award of Excellence plaque and $500 scholarship, which is given to the biology major with the highest G.P.A., excellence in leadership and who supports the Biology Department's policies and goals.

Bethany Brown received the Colonel Erwiin T. Kock Citizenship $100 award for all-around good citizenship and leadership in campus activities.

Carie Jessee won the Delta Omicron International Music Fraternity Senior Honor Pin, which recognizes the member with the highest G.P.A.

Leslie Morgan Reaves received the Kappa Omicron Nu Outstanding Family and Consumer Sciences Freshman award for high scholastic standing, participation in FCS projects, personality, leadership and service.

Katie Litzell won the Phi Alpha Theta Scholarship award, which honors a graduating senior history major who is the most outstanding in scholarship and professional aptitude.
