The faculty pulled out a come-from-behind 13-12 victory over the red-shirt freshmen football players last Thursday night at Carson-Newman's 2nd annual Cereal Bowl, held in Burke-Tarr Stadium.
The event, sponsored by Mortar Board, was held to raise proceeds for Appalachian Outreach. Boxes of cereal were collected at the game to donate to AO for its food pantry. Students who came to the game with either an unopened box of cereal or $3 received admission to the game and a chapel credit, along with the fulfillment of knowing that they were contributing to a good cause.
Mortar Board member Anna White coordinated the event. Mortar Board collected 248 boxes, more than tripling last year's 80 box total.
Morristown Hyundai agreed to donate 50 cents for each box of cereal collected, raising an extra $168 for Appalachian Outreach.
The Mortar Board is hoping that this event will continue to grow and become an annual tradition for Carson-Newman.
