On the anniversary of September 11, 2001, Carson-Newman students, administrators, and faculty have their own recollections of that day. The 9-11 Project is an online collection of the memories of the events, emotions, and personal experiences of members of college community in the moments of a national tragedy.

Dr. Susan Underwood recounts her desperate attempt to reach friends in New York's financial district.  Dr. Shawn O'Hare writes about his own stay at 3 World Trade Center on 8-11-2001, and President Randall O'Brien shares the story of a lesson learned that day from a surprising source.

The 9-11 Project is a joint endeavor by the Orange and Blue staff, Alpha Chi Honors Society, and the Digital Café, a center for digital storytelling.  The Orange and Blue website serves as the archives for the written and audio stories of September 11th by the Carson-Newman community.

"It is amazing how the events of that day continue to shape all of us," said Dr. Mark Borchert, a faculty member working with the project.  "For me, September 11this one of the reasons that I'm at this institution.  This project gives me the chance to tell my family's story and to listen to the stories of others."
